The Story of Walter Tull

A storybook by Northamptonshire Black History Association, December 2007

Black British History: Selected Studies

This book presents a varied and fascinating collection of studies in Black British History ranging across three hundred years of Britain’s links to Africa, North America, the Caribbean and the Indian sub-continent.

The Selected Studies fill important gaps in the generally received record of British History, providing readers with an opportunity to extend their understanding of this country’s global past. The book is the product of an ongoing partnership between Northamptonshire Black History Association and the University of Northampton.

Black Is Also British (Siblon 2005)
Northamptonshire Black History Association has undertaken two studies into the teaching of Black History.

The first 'Black Is Also British' (Siblon 2005) was undertaken to establish whenever there was a need to develop black history materials. This supported the NBHA case to the HLF for developing out five thematic packs.

This was followed by a further study in 2010-11 (Bracey 2011) which will be available in due course.

Black Is Also British: Siblon 2005

Northamptonshire In A Global Context

This teaching resource explores three different topics covered within the book Sharing the Past.

- James Chapple and The Daring Deed

- Ira Aldridge - A Charmed Life?

- Piecing together the Salem family jigsaw

These mini-teaching packs are intended to provide materials for one or two lessons either as a lead into or as part of a wider general topic.

These relate to different periods in the past in order to promote the integration of a black dimension in both the recent and distant past as part of our multicultural society and wider world.
