WALTER TULL MEMORIAL EVENTS, MARKING A CENTURY OF LOSS

We have worked together with Northampton Museum, Northampton Borough Council, All Saints Church and other community groups to organise memorial events to mark 100 ye

ars since the passing of Walter Tull who was shot dead in the Battle of Sommes on the 25th March 1918.

UNVEILING OF BLUE PLAQUE IN RUSHDENWalter Tull in uniform026

Some of you may know that Walter Tull has a Blue Plaque at his former residence in London. This was unveiled at 77 Northumberland Park in October 2014. These special heritage plaques commemorate some of Britains most honourable people. Disappointingly, our BAME ancestors are still significantly underrepresented when these Blue Plaques are awarded by English Heritage. Therefore, this plaque was quite a significant mark of respect for Walter’s achievements and bravery.
However, its only fitting that he also gets a plaque in Northamptonshire, where some of his family continue to reside to this day. The wait is over! A ‘Blue Plaque’ will be unveiled at Walters old residence on Queens Street. The plaque will be unveiled by our long-standing Trustee Morcea Walker MBE. This event is being led by Rushden & District History Society. The plaque will be unveiled at 26 Queen Street, Rushden, Northamptonshire. This event will take place at 12 pm on Sunday 25th March 2018.
